[DigitalToday reporter Chi-kyu Hwang] AI agent-only cloud startup Daytona has joined the ranks of unicorns after being valued at $1 billion, TechCrunch reported on Oct. 23 local time.
Daytona raised $60 million in a Series B round led by FirstMark Growth, the report said. FirstMark also led a $24 million Series A round in February. Daytona's total funding increased to $91 million.
Founders and executives of prominent tech companies also joined in large numbers as angel investors in the latest round. Qualcomm Ventures, Samsung Next and Octa Ventures were also named as investors.
Now in its third year, Daytona is developing a cloud service aimed at AI agents that work for long periods.
Daytona says agents require infrastructure that differs from existing software.
Founder Ivan Burazin (이반 부라진) wrote on a blog that "agents work differently from always-on existing services." He stressed that "agents run thousands of short tasks as needed, so there must be a cloud that fits that."
According to Burazin, Daytona's cloud gives each agent its own computer. Agents can use isolated Linux, Windows and macOS environments and GPUs on the Daytona platform.
