XRP Ledger (XRPL) x402-based agentic payments have surpassed 13.41 million in cumulative transactions.
On Oct. 10 (local time), blockchain outlet The Crypto Basic reported that J. Ayo Akinyele (아요 아키녜일), head of RippleX engineering, posted updated payment figures on X, formerly Twitter. He said that if the current trend continues, cumulative payments could reach 100 million earlier than the XRP community expects.
XRPL agentic payments rose about 40 percent to 1.4 million on July 22 from 1 million on July 8 and exceeded 13 million this month. Akinyele cited an increase in artificial intelligence (AI) agents and improvements in blockchain infrastructure as drivers of the growth.
On-chain data aggregation account t54 said cumulative payments were tallied at 13,417,943 on the day. The average daily number of payments over the past seven days was 216,145. Akinyele said agentic payments account for about 25 percent of total network activity on XRPL.
The service base is also expanding. Data showed 178 active agents and 166 x402 merchants, with 2,289 services available for payment. Services that AI agents can use and the payment environment supporting them are increasing together.
Akinyele urged developers to build new applications by tapping this demand. He said AI agents are already creating demand for APIs, data and computing resources. He cited low fees, fast payment finality and expanding AI development tools as advantages of building on XRPL.
Ripple also moved to support development by launching the "XRPL AI Starter Kit" in June. The kit provides tools, documentation and integration features needed to develop agentic payment solutions. Built on the x402 protocol, it supports payments in XRP and Ripple USD (RLUSD) and is designed to let AI agents pay for API calls, model inference and computing resource usage without separate account-based payment procedures.
The core technology x402 is an HTTP-based open internet payment standard. It allows service providers to request payment on existing internet infrastructure and enables AI agents to automatically pay for access to data, software tools and computing resources.
x402, first developed by Coinbase, is now governed by the x402 Foundation under the Linux Foundation. Ripple also participates as a premier member, and the expansion of XRPL agentic payments is leading to the adoption of an AI payment standard and the expansion of the developer ecosystem.
The latest tally shows XRPL broadening its use beyond cryptocurrency remittances to a real-world payment network for AI agents. The rise in payment volumes and the expansion of development tools are also progressing together.
"Just a couple of months ago, I predicted XRPL would quickly surpass 10M agentic transactions. XRPL has now hit another milestone, processing over 13M with 166 x402 merchants. Agentic payments now account for roughly 25% of activity on the ledger. 100M might actually come sooner than we expect! Now is the time to build. Agents are already paying for APIs, data and compute. XRPL’s low fees, fast settlement, and growing AI toolkit give developers the tools to turn that demand into new products. https://t.co/MAPyrHiRaw"
