K-Perf used for first time to verify KEPCO adoption of AI NPU chips

South Korea’s AI chip performance metric K-Perf will be used for the first time to verify a demand organisation’s adoption of AI semiconductors, the Science and ICT ministry said. Korea Electric Power Corp will run pilot operations and develop use models as it shifts to an NPU-based integrated monitoring system for AI video analysis. Rebellions will optimise performance and provide support, while TTA will conduct performance and reliability verification reflecting actual operating conditions.

Kakao holds first public innovation awards, selects 30 best-practice cases

Kakao selected 30 public innovation cases that used its services such as KakaoTalk and Kakao Map to improve administrative efficiency and public convenience. The company held the inaugural 2026 Kakao Public Innovation Awards on Sept. 8 in Seoul, with about 140 attendees from 30 organisations and Kakao. Winners were chosen after external expert reviews based on criteria including innovation, performance and sustainability. Kakao will provide 300 million won worth of ad coupons and run AI training for the public sector.

Government to set up future response fund based on 162.3 trillion won in extra tax revenue, double megaproject budget

South Korea’s government plans to create and set aside a 162.3 trillion won future response fund in its 2027 budget, allocating 45.4 trillion won to four areas: youth, growth engines, regions and education and talent. Spending for “three megaprojects plus AI” covering semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centres rises 97.2 percent to 21.3 trillion won. Total 2027 spending is set at 820.9 trillion won, up 12.8 percent.
