OpenAI CEO Sam Altman (샘 알트먼) expressed support for the South Korean government's "AI for all" vision and stressed the need for bold investment in AI infrastructure.

Altman said at an AI summit in San Francisco on July 24 local time, "I support the South Korean government's 'AI for all' vision," and added that achieving it would require bold investment in AI infrastructure.

He said Korea's AI infrastructure projects would not only be a major help to the Korean economy and people, but also play an important role in helping AI worldwide leap to the next stage.

Altman met President Lee Jae-myung (이재명) one-on-one that day and discussed Korea's AI vision and the direction for long-term cooperation.

After the meeting with the president, he met SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won (최태원) and discussed ways to cooperate, focusing on AI infrastructure such as HBM and DRAM and SK Group's AI transformation.

On July 25 local time, he plans to hold a meeting at OpenAI headquarters in San Francisco with Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee (이재용) to discuss cooperation on AI infrastructure such as HBM, DRAM and advanced foundries and on Samsung Electronics' AI transformation.

OpenAI plans to further strengthen strategic partnerships with the South Korean government and major domestic companies such as Samsung and SK through this schedule.

OpenAI signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Science and ICT in October last year and has been seeking ways to cooperate to advance Korea's AI industry and expand next-generation AI infrastructure.

It has formed strategic partnerships with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix and is pushing to expand production of advanced memory semiconductors. OpenAI described this as the first country-level partnership it announced in the Asia-Pacific region.

The scope of cooperation is expanding beyond AI infrastructure to adoption of AI by domestic companies, educational institutions and the public sector.

Samsung Electronics has decided to introduce ChatGPT and Codex for all employees, and Seoul National University is providing ChatGPT Edu to all members, including professors, students and staff.

In the public sector, it has signed memorandums of understanding with Korea Electric Power Corp, Korea Water Resources Corp and the Korea Technology Finance Corp to support AI transformation at each institution.

OpenAI also announced a "Korea Cyber Action Plan" to support strengthening AI-based cyber defense capabilities for the South Korean government, public institutions and domestic companies. It is also cooperating with the Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute on AI safety.

Altman said, "Within the next few years, AI will make it possible to treat diseases and make new scientific discoveries, create new jobs, and enable people to enjoy more free time," adding, "The benefits of these changes must be shared by everyone."
