KT checked its communications network restoration and user protection systems to prepare for complex disaster situations such as drone attacks and intruder break-ins.

KT said on Nov. 1 it took part on Oct. 30 in the '2026 Disaster Response Safe Korea drills' hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT at its Guro facility in Seoul.

The drill assumed a drone attack and unauthorized entry at KT's Guro facility, leading to an explosion, fire and a blackout, and resulting in disruptions to wired and wireless communications services. The Ministry of Science and ICT, along with the military, police, fire authorities, Korea Electric Power Corp, local governments and major telecommunications operators, took part.

KT assessed the on-site situation immediately after the disaster, shared information with relevant agencies and activated its disaster response headquarters. It then checked damage to communications facilities and the impact on services, and reviewed response procedures under its manual, including emergency restoration and user protection measures.

The company also trained on identifying damage by facility and service, including power, wireless, lines, telephone, internet and IPTV, and on resuming communications services through restoration and rerouting measures.

KT also carried out responses aimed at minimising user inconvenience caused by communications disruptions. It checked measures such as opening disaster roaming and disaster Wi-Fi, deploying mobile base stations and mobile generator vehicles, and supporting small business owners with alternative payment methods using smartphone tethering.

KT plans to continue taking part in practical disaster response drills to strengthen its crisis management capabilities.

Young-geun Ji (지영근), executive vice president and head of the Gangnam network operations division for the Seoul Capital Area at KT's network business unit, said, "Through this drill, we comprehensively checked our response system for rapidly restoring communications services in the event of complex disasters." He added, "We will strengthen network stability and disaster response capabilities so the public can use communications services with peace of mind."
