SK Group carried out a 2027 executive reshuffle that keeps chief executives at major affiliates while appointing new hands-on leaders. SK Group held an interim SUPEX Pursuit Council meeting and announced on the 30th the appointments decided by each affiliate board. It explained that the reshuffle focuses on maintaining management stability while raising fundamental competitiveness in existing businesses. It cited securing a stable profit structure and accelerating global technology and business innovation as the background to the changes.
Holding company SK Corp will keep its leadership under CEO Yong-ho Jang (장용호), formerly head of SK Siltron. Sun-hyuk Kim (김선혁), head of the strategy division who has overseen portfolio management and business model innovation at SKC, was promoted to executive vice president. Young-soo Kwon (권영수), head of strategy who has handled ESG and management strategy work at SK Innovation, was promoted to serve as executive vice president in charge of the SUPEX Pursuit Council and to lead stronger synergies among member companies.
SK Innovation's new CEO is Seung-il Chung (정승일), executive vice president in charge of future growth at SK Corp, who has served as vice minister at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and as CEO of Korea Electric Power Corp. Executive Vice President Dong-soo Kang (강동수), who has led SK Corp's PM division, will concurrently serve as co-CEO of SK Innovation and CEO of SK Energy. The role is to link cash generated from existing businesses to investment in future new businesses.
SK Geocentric's CEO role will be held concurrently by Executive Vice President Won-gi Kim (김원기), who has served as CEO of SK Enmove since 2023. Kim will leverage his experience generating profits in base oil and lubricants to improve profitability in high value-added chemical businesses. SK Discovery's CEO is set to be Executive Vice President Byeong-seok Yoon (윤병석), who has led SK Gas since 2019, to flesh out mid- to long-term growth strategies. SK Gas's new CEO will be Kyung-yeol Song (송경열), head of strategy with a doctorate in aeronautics and astronautics from MIT, who will be responsible for advancing the value chain and improving the financial structure.
It also reinforced leadership for overseas businesses. SK Group created a new Southeast Asia regional chief position in addition to its existing heads for the Americas, China and Japan. Executive Vice President Hyung-wook Choo (추형욱), who has served as CEO of SK E&S and SK Innovation, will take the inaugural post. The group plans to rapidly pursue local research and development and commercialisation in AI, environment-friendly and advanced materials businesses. It also presented early completion of rebalancing and establishing growth engines centred on AI and advanced technologies as tasks.
An SK Group official said, "This reshuffle is intended to strengthen fundamental competitiveness amid an uncertain business environment and to create a turning point for a new leap through pre-emptive business restructuring and technological innovation." The official added, "We will speed up the group's qualitative growth and efforts to enhance corporate value."
