Cable TV launches local election coverage ahead of June 3 local elections
The Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association said 8 regional cable TV channels nationwide will begin community-focused election coverage ahead of the June 3 local elections. Operators plan formats including candidate pledges and voter views, short-form content, live links to campaign sites and multi-live broadcast comparisons. Several will air debates and speeches, including free airtime for local assembly candidates. Some will provide rapid vote counts using in-house systems and AI-based studios.

Cable TV urges new commission to carry on review of lowering fund levy to 1.3 percent
South Korea\'s cable TV industry urged the Broadcast Media Communications Commission to continue talks on lowering the broadcast development fund levy, after the science ministry was understood to have reviewed cutting the rate for system operators to 1.3 percent from 1.5 percent. The commission said it will commission research to review the overall levy system, making changes hard before an August decision. Experts cited worsening profitability and called for revisions, including differentiated relief for loss-making operators.

2026 Cable TV Broadcast Awards held, 52 people honoured
The Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association held the 2026 Cable TV Broadcast Awards on Tuesday at Hotel Naru MGallery in Seoul, presenting awards to a total of 52 people. Marking its 20th year, the event is the country’s only integrated awards ceremony for the paid TV industry, spanning system operators and programme providers. Eight programme provider works and nine regional channel works won awards.
