Cable TV urges relief from broadcast development fund burden as local public infrastructure in \'five poles, three specials\' era
South Korea\'s cable TV system operators urged the government to ease their broadcast development fund burden, stressing local channels\' role as public infrastructure. At a seminar at the National Assembly on June 30, speakers said local channels provide closely targeted reporting, election coverage and disaster broadcasting. Researchers presented a hyperlocal media index and said cable channels in South Gyeongsang and Ulsan outperformed terrestrial and private broadcasters in local coverage. Regulators said more discussion is needed.

Missing cable TV policy timing could trigger second JTBC crisis
Calls are growing for an urgent overhaul of regulations for South Korea\'s paid TV industry as subscriber declines and a weakening revenue base push the sector into a structural crisis. At a Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association seminar, Lee Jong-gwan (이종관) warned that missing short-term policy timing could lead to a second JTBC crisis and curb content investment. The association also reported four straight years of operating losses for cable operators\' broadcasting businesses.

Korea Cable TV Association launches training course to boost AI production skills
The Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association said on June 19 it will open and operate a practical artificial intelligence training course for employees of member companies with the Korea Radio Promotion Association (RAPA). The programme is supported by the Broadcasting and Communications Development Fund of the Broadcasting Media Communications Committee. It will run in Seoul in a basic course from June 23 to 25 and an advanced course from July 22 to 24.
