South Korea's cable TV industry will roll out a large lineup of special content featuring local themes across news, education and culture during this year's Lunar New Year holiday period, it said on Feb. 12.

LG HelloVision will air a special news series on Feb. 17 and 18 that highlights cases of settling in regions, titled "K-Living Craze, Provinces Are Rising". It will also schedule original programs such as "Taegun Singing Contest Season 3". SK Broadband plans to introduce the origins of holiday food with "Aesthetics of Tteokguk" and quickly deliver useful daily-life information such as traditional market events.

Programs combining culture and the arts will also air. D'LIVE will present a classical stage through opera busking series "Opera House Season 3" from Feb. 16 to 18, and CMB will broadcast specials themed on managing holiday syndrome and intergenerational empathy. HCN prepared a regional policy talk show, and Seokyung Broadcasting readied a program covering the lives of master artisans at century-old stores. KCTV Gwangju Broadcasting scheduled 3 documentaries on exile culture, considerate travel and regional extinction to highlight local value.

Hwang Hee-man (황희만), chairman of the Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association, said the specials will offer audiences a rich lineup and provide an opportunity to connect with local communities. He said it will continue its role close to residents' lives by delivering local stories in a balanced way.
