Telecom operators\' user protection average score 873 points, down 13 points from year earlier
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Communications Commission said an assessment of user-protection work at 47 telecommunications operators showed overall performance fell or was flat from a year earlier. The average score for 39 companies, excluding eight pilot-assessment firms, was 873.3 points, down 13.4 points. Grades for large carriers generally declined. The regulator cited shortcomings among value-added operators and said it would withhold or delay penalty-reduction benefits for top-rated firms.

SKT Broadband leads IPTV security spending; KT Skylife tops security share of IT budget
South Korea’s three IPTV operators increased information security spending in 2024, reflecting the sensitive data handled by broadcast platforms. Combined spending by SKT Broadband, KT Skylife and LG HelloVision rose about 6.6 percent from a year earlier to 32,828,770,000 won, data from the Korea Internet & Security Agency’s disclosure portal showed. SKT Broadband spent the most, while KT Skylife had the highest security share of its IT budget.

Media communications commission renews KT Skylife satellite TV licence for 7 years
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Communications Commission voted to renew the satellite broadcasting licence of pay-TV operator KT Skylife for a period of 7 years. The commission reviewed the renewal at its 15th plenary meeting of 2026 on June 5 after the previous licence period expired last year. KT Skylife scored 697.52 out of 1,000 points, above the 650-point threshold. Renewal conditions were reduced to five from 20 conditions and five recommendations previously.
