The Broadcast Media Communications Commission on Sunday held its third plenary meeting of 2026 and released the 2024 viewing share calculation results for 166 television broadcasters.
The calculation covered broadcasters operating 285 channels with annual viewing records. Viewing share refers to the proportion of total television viewing time accounted for by a specific channel. It is calculated by adding the broadcaster’s viewing share, the viewing share of parties with special relationships and other viewing-share measures converted from daily newspaper subscription rates.
Among terrestrial broadcasters, KBS was the highest at 20.862 percent. MBC was 10.978 percent, SBS 7.550 percent and EBS 1.859 percent.
Viewing shares for comprehensive programming channel operators and news channel operators were 7.441 percent for TV Chosun, 6.145 percent for JTBC, 4.877 percent for Channel A, 4.754 percent for Maeil Broadcasting Network, 3.459 percent for YTN and 3.285 percent for Yonhap News TV.
Viewing shares for major programme providers and satellite broadcasters were 11.092 percent for CJ ENM and 3.687 percent for KT Skylife.
Compared with the previous year, KBS fell 0.613 percentage points and TV Chosun fell 0.563 percentage points. CJ ENM rose 1.103 percentage points and Channel A rose 0.903 percentage points.
The media exchange rate, which shows the difference in media influence between television broadcasting and daily newspapers, was 0.48 in 2024. The media exchange rate refers to the relative ratio of daily newspapers when television broadcasting is set at 1.
The commission plans to disclose the results on its website and through the Broadcasting Statistics Portal.
