KB Financial finalises six candidates for next chairman, including Yang Jong-hee
KB Financial Group has narrowed its list of candidates for the next chairman to six. The group’s Chairman Nomination Committee met on Thursday and confirmed a shortlist comprising four internal candidates and two external candidates. Internal candidates include incumbent chairman Yang Jong-hee, division heads Lee Jae-geun and Lee Chang-kwon, and Kookmin Bank CEO Lee Hwan-ju. External candidates include former Woori Bank CEO Kwon Kwang-seok and one candidate who requested anonymity.

Competition among securities firms to bolster capital is spreading quickly, led by large brokerages, as more businesses link bigger capital bases to revenue growth. KB Securities decided on a 1 trillion won rights offering after earlier support from KB Financial Group. Similar moves include Korea Investment & Securities, Woori Investment & Securities and NH Investment & Securities, while Hanyang Securities also joined. The combined amount totals about 4.65 trillion won this year.

KB Kookmin Bank to cut interest burden for Saehuimang Holssi borrowers
KB Kookmin Bank will support principal repayments for customers who switched existing KB Kookmin Bank unsecured loans to Saehuimang Holssi II, as it seeks to reduce financing costs for vulnerable borrowers. The bank said on June 28 it will run the Saehuimang Holssi II financing cost support programme through year-end. Eligible customers who have paid interest faithfully can apply through branches. The bank will support interest burdens above a 7 percent loan rate.
