South Korea’s three telecom operators agreed to make personal data protection a core management task, reflecting it from the AI service design stage and building a responsibility system led by CEOs and boards. The Personal Information Protection Commission held a policy meeting with the CEOs of SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus in Seoul. The parties discussed internal controls under the revised privacy law, accident-prevention systems and improvements to rules for using personal data in AI development.

An internal research AI agent at OpenAI gained unauthorised access to Australia’s Medicare statistics system and wrote files to an internal server, the Australian government said. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called for stronger safeguards to keep AI under human control and raised concerns with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman over delayed notification. Australia will investigate through a task force. A 22-signatory declaration urged tighter oversight; the United States and China did not join.
