LG Innotek has formalised a safety and health cooperation framework between the labour union and management. The company said on April 9 it held a joint labour-management agreement ceremony.
The agreement was attended by 10 people, including CEO Moon Hyeok-su (문혁수) and union chairman Lee Jung-il (이중일), who signed a joint declaration. The declaration sets out a commitment to work together to find solutions for a safe workplace based on open communication and mutual trust. The company cited a growing social recognition that employee health and safety are a key factor in sustainable growth as the backdrop to the cooperation.
The two sides also pledged to build a care system under which members' lives and work are in balance. The declaration also includes a commitment to create an organisational culture in which any employee can demonstrate their capabilities based on physical and psychological stability.
LG Innotek plans to launch a separate consultative body this month to implement the agreement, called the No-Gyeong joint task. The body will jointly identify and drive practical tasks so employees can feel changes at the workplace. Initial tasks cited include launching a new joint labour-management safety and health brand to spread a safety culture and introducing various workplace safety and health management programmes.
It also plans to expand safety and health-related social contribution activities for local communities and partner companies. The company said it plans to strengthen the social responsibility of labour and management through the effort.
Lee said, "So that the company's growth can lead to the happiness of union members, we will keep pace with management on the path to creating a healthy and safe workplace."
Moon said, "This agreement is a promise by labour and management to put employees' health and safety as the top value and protect it through various cooperation." He added, "Management will also listen to voices from the field and stay with you to the end."
