South Korea ranks 12th in generative AI usage, fastest growth among major economies

Microsoft think tank AI Economy Institute released a report on global AI diffusion, using anonymised telemetry data to measure generative AI use among people aged 15 to 64. Global usage rose to 18.8 percent in June 2026 from 17.8 percent in the first quarter. South Korea’s share climbed 3.5 percentage points to 40.6 percent, ranking 12th worldwide and posting the biggest increase among major economies for a third straight time.

China\'s value AI models speed global spread, raising tensions in Washington

Chinese AI models have lifted their share of enterprise use to a majority on major developer platforms in 2026, helped by improved performance and lower prices. On OpenRouter, Chinese models accounted for 57 to 67 percent of token use in a mid-September week, up from 6 to 13 percent in February. Washington is investigating broader adoption, while OpenRouter data show the sharpest recent use in countries it classifies as the Global South.

LG Electronics has opened its first Middle East business-to-business AI home experience space in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, bringing together home appliances and building management in a single showroom. The company is showcasing AI home solutions centered on its ThinQ ON hub, including voice-based generative AI controls and connectivity with the Homey Pro IoT platform. It is also displaying turnkey building management offerings with partners including Schneider Electric and Assa Abloy.
