Baeg Gyeong-hun (배경훈), deputy prime minister and minister of science and ICT, will attend the 2026 India Artificial Intelligence (AI) Impact Summit to be held in India to discuss global AI governance.
The Ministry of Science and ICT said on Feb. 13 that a South Korean delegation led by Baeg as chief representative will attend the summit, which will be held in New Delhi from Feb. 18 to 20.
The AI summit is a top-level platform to discuss global AI governance. The ministry said it is significant that it will be held for the first time in India, a Global South country. The meeting will address AI’s impact on society as a key agenda item.
Baeg is set to stress the importance of international solidarity to link advances in AI technology to values for the common good of humanity. He will also share South Korea’s AI transition cases based on its competitiveness in semiconductors and digital infrastructure, as well as domestic policy experience such as the implementation of the Framework Act on Artificial Intelligence.
About 100 countries’ government representatives, along with officials from global companies, academia and research institutions, will take part to discuss expanding AI’s social benefits and measures for implementation. The ministry plans to seek policy cooperation measures through meetings with delegations from major countries including the United States and with global AI companies during the summit.
Baeg will also attend and chair the ministerial board meeting of the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) on Feb. 20, held in connection with the summit, as co-chair with Singapore. He will discuss the future direction of international AI governance.
Baeg said attending the summit will be an opportunity for South Korea to strengthen its capabilities and solidarity to lead global AI governance. He added it is also meaningful in expanding points of contact for "AI diplomacy" with Global South countries.
