U.S. House to vote on bill to curb AI data center-driven power bill hikes

The U.S. House of Representatives is moving to process legislation that would require operators of large AI data centers to bear the cost of new grid and transmission infrastructure linked to their rising power use. The bipartisan Ratepayer Protection Act would also allow states to adopt rules preventing those costs from being passed on to households and small businesses. The bill comes as U.S. electricity demand is forecast to rise through 2027.
