Used Chinese EVs pour into Europe as tariff detour

Used Chinese electric cars are emerging as a new competitor in Europe’s auto market. The European Union imposes high tariffs on new Chinese-made EVs, but used cars are excluded from additional tariffs, helping boost exports on low prices. Data from China EV Marketplace show used-car sales to EU customers rose 280 percent in January to September, while new-car sales fell 44 percent. The platform is shifting its focus to used vehicles.

BYD nears unveiling $300,000 ultra-luxury electric sedan, solid-state battery in focus

China\'s BYD is expected to unveil an ultra-luxury electric sedan in the United Arab Emirates in early November. The new flagship model from its top-end Yangwang brand could feature a solid-state battery and rear-hinged coach doors, though specifications have not been confirmed. Reports said it may be revealed in Dubai around Nov. 5. Pricing is expected to be about $300,000, well above Yangwang’s existing lineup.

ESS cannot be used at EV charging stations. Why?

As energy storage systems (ESS) are seen as an alternative for EV charging stations with limited grid connection capacity, the charging industry is calling for制度 changes. Current government ESS policy and the distributed energy framework focus on supporting renewable energy, and do not allow storing electricity taken from the grid in an ESS for use in charging. Facilities combining ESS and chargers are allowed only when installed with solar power. The industry says relying on regulatory sandbox demonstrations is insufficient.
