Nvidia to use Vera CPU in next-generation CPU and GPU design, work with EDA firms
Nvidia said on July 27 it will use its Nvidia Vera CPU to accelerate the design of next-generation CPUs and GPUs. The company said it is optimising key electronic design automation applications with Cadence and Synopsys, and early tests showed up to 1.5 times better performance for major verification and simulation workloads. Nvidia said it is rolling Vera across EDA workflows used in its next-generation development.

Nvidia steps up next-generation chip design with in-house Vera CPU
Nvidia is deploying its in-house Vera CPU in semiconductor design processes to accelerate development of next-generation chips. The company said it worked with Cadence and Synopsys to optimise core electronic design automation applications. As chip design grows more complex, key EDA workloads such as logic simulation and formal verification still rely heavily on CPU performance. In tests, Cadence Jasper and Synopsys VCS delivered up to 1.5 times higher performance on some workloads with the same core count.

Oracle launches compact database appliance for branch and remote sites
Oracle has unveiled an on-premises appliance, Base Database Cloud@Customer, designed to run its database at branch offices, remote sites and small business units. The system targets smaller deployments than the Exadata Cloud@Customer X11M. It comes as an 8U, 14-inch module with two servers based on AMD fifth-generation EPYC chips. It offers flash storage that can be expanded and supports triple mirroring, plus high availability and disaster recovery features.
