Nvidia has secured AI cloud startup Modal, which had used only Intel and AMD chips, as a customer for its central processing units (CPUs), Reuters reported on Sunday.

Modal, which provides computing power to AI developers, has decided to use Nvidia's new Vera CPU to run AI agents.

Until now, it has handled that work only on Intel and AMD chips.

Modal decided to support the Vera CPU after early tests showed the chip doubled AI agent workloads.

To run on Nvidia chips, Modal must make major changes to its software, Reuters reported.

Modal plans to mix Nvidia chips with Intel and AMD chips going forward. It aims to use the hardware that works best for each task.

Modal last week raised $750 million in an investment round led by Accel. Its valuation was assessed at $15.75 billion.

The company said usage of its Modal service tripled in a year and revenue jumped more than 15-fold.

Nvidia told investors it expects at least $20 billion in Vera chip revenue in the current fiscal year. OpenAI, Anthropic, Oracle and Perplexity also plan to use the Vera chip.
