LG Innotek will work with Nvidia to develop sensing solutions for physical AI and robots. LG Innotek said on Wednesday it unveiled sensing solutions applying Nvidia's Holoscan Sensor Bridge (HSB) technology at GTC Berlin, held in Berlin, Germany. It unveiled a 3-megapixel camera module and a multimodal vision system, among others. The multimodal vision system combines multiple sensors such as cameras, lidar and radar to comprehensively recognise the surrounding environment.

HSB is Nvidia's transmission technology that delivers data collected by sensors directly to an AI computer without passing through a CPU. With a shorter data path, information processing and decision-making by physical AI such as self-driving cars and robots become faster. The industry rates HSB as a technology that will lead the physical AI ecosystem. GTC is a developer and business conference that Nvidia holds every year.

LG Innotek said the cooperation will broaden its contact points with global physical AI companies using Nvidia platforms and increase opportunities to supply camera and sensing solutions. The two companies will expand cooperation in HSB-based areas such as vision sensing for humanoid robots and robot hands. They plan to develop solutions connected to Nvidia's next-generation platform and unveil them at next year's CES and GTC.

In autonomous driving, LG Innotek formed a strategic partnership on its lidar business with U.S. company Aeva in July last year and made a strategic equity investment in Smart Radar System in September. This year, it began cooperation to jointly develop autonomous driving solutions with U.S. company Applied Intuition in March and with Kakao Mobility in May. In September, it began operating a sensing data collection fleet for autonomous driving with Applied Intuition.

In robotics, it signed a memorandum of understanding with KAIST in April last year for joint development of technology for future new businesses. In May, it agreed to cooperate with Boston Dynamics to develop a vision sensing system for robots. In July this year, it signed an MOU with Japan's TDK on physical AI cooperation and began mass production in Paju of camera modules for North American robotics customers the same month.

Moon Hyuk-soo (문혁수), CEO of LG Innotek, said, "This cooperation is a good opportunity to spread LG Innotek's differentiated integrated sensing solutions in the global market." He said, "We will quickly move to preempt the physical AI solutions market as a 'physical AI total solution provider' spanning not only sensing but also communication modules and semiconductor substrates."
