CATL unveils world\'s first demonstrated sodium-ion battery ESS, sets commercial supply timeline
CATL unveiled a sodium-ion battery-based energy storage system and provided a commercial supply timeline, marking a shift from research to large-scale deployment. The company introduced its Tener Sodium system in Munich and said it has secured technology, production capacity and supply chains. CATL plans first deliveries in China in September and aims to ship a cumulative 1 GWh by end-2026, with global supply starting in June 2027.

AI extends EV battery life by 23 percent, study says
A study finds that using artificial intelligence to control current during fast charging can extend electric vehicle battery life by up to 23 percent. Researchers at Sweden’s Chalmers University of Technology applied reinforcement learning to a battery management system to adjust current and voltage in real time based on battery condition, reducing stress as the battery ages. The results are based on simulations, and commercial use will depend on reproducing performance in real vehicles.

CATL battery with 12-minute charging, 1.8 million km durability draws attention
CATL, the world’s largest battery maker, unveiled next-generation technology it says enables routine fast charging while limiting long-term degradation. The company said its new 5C battery can retain 80 percent capacity after 1,400 charge-discharge cycles at 60 degrees Celsius and after 3,000 cycles at 20 degrees Celsius, implying up to 1.8 million km of driving under mild conditions. CATL did not say when mass production will begin or where it will be used.
