Solid-state batteries move from dream technology to reality as QuantumScape, Toyota, CATL jockey

Solid-state batteries, seen as a next-generation technology for electric vehicles and energy storage systems, are reigniting a commercialisation race. They replace liquid electrolytes with solid materials to cut fire risk and raise energy density, but face hurdles including dendrites, manufacturing defects and high costs. Intel Ohio chip plant raises first structure after five-year delay, targets 2030 completion

Intel has completed installation of the first major structural truss at its large semiconductor plant under construction in New Albany, Ohio, and has moved into the next phase of work. The project is at least five years behind the original schedule. Intel had initially said chips would begin shipping in 2025, but it now targets completion in 2030. A second plant is planned on a site northeast of Columbus, with a completion target of 2031.

Apple to source more iPhone parts in US, spend $100 million on titanium for foldable iPhone Duo

Apple is expanding U.S. sourcing for key materials and components used in the iPhone 18 Pro and its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo. The company said it will secure new partners through its U.S. Manufacturing Program and source about 100 parts from firms in at least 12 U.S. states. Apple will invest up to $100 million over three years to support titanium production by Pennsylvania-based Perryman and said the titanium includes at least 80 percent recycled material.
