OpenAI completes appointment of local representative in South Korea
OpenAI has completed the appointment of a local representative in South Korea under the revised Personal Information Protection Act, officials said. The law requires overseas firms with a Korean unit to designate that unit as the local representative and disclose it in their privacy policy. OpenAI updated its Korea privacy policy on April 1. OpenAI also said it will follow obligations under the AI Basic Act, which requires a local representative and reporting to the science ministry.

KOSPI plunges 6 percent after first intraday break above 8,000, triggers sell sidecar
South Korea\'s KOSPI on Thursday briefly broke above the 8,000 mark for the first time before reversing sharply and ending below 7,500. The index closed down 6.12 percent at 7,493.18 as profit-taking pressure grew after a rapid rise, while Middle East tensions, rising U.S. and Japanese rates and a weaker won weighed on sentiment. The Korea Exchange activated a sell sidecar, temporarily halting program sell orders.

Sony PS5 sales plunge 46 percent, raising concerns for game business growth
Sony\'s PlayStation 5 sales fell sharply, with fourth-quarter unit sales down to 1.5 million and annual sales at 16.0 million. The company expects revenue in its Games & Network Services unit to drop by 265.7 billion yen in fiscal 2026, citing weaker replacement demand and memory procurement constraints. Still, annual segment revenue rose 87.3 billion yen, helped by currency effects, network services and third-party software sales.
