Dockpamo phase 2 shows usability decisive as project to be reshaped into frontier AI after final two teams selected

South Korea’s second-stage evaluation for the government’s independent AI foundation model project found usability and potential industrial and service application were decisive. Motif Technologies was eliminated despite leading global benchmarks, while Upstage, SK Telecom and LG AI Research advanced on strengths such as commercial deployment plans, industrial demonstrations and ecosystem expansion. The government will hold a third-stage contest to pick two final teams, but has not set detailed criteria or schedule and is reviewing 2027 support plans linked to a frontier AI model programme.

Kakao language model Kanana-2 outperforms overseas models in safety assessment

Kakao has disclosed numerical safety verification results for its self-developed lightweight language models. The company said on Aug. 18 that two open-source models in its Kanana-2 series scored higher than major global models of similar size on assessments of harmfulness and bias, confirming top-tier safety. The evaluation used AssurAI, a Korea-designed safety benchmark, and compared the models with Google’s Gemma and Alibaba’s Qwen.

BitMine buys another 9,926 ether, nears 5 percent of circulating supply goal

BitMine bought an additional 9,926 ether over the past week, lifting its total holdings to 5,815,164. That equals 4.8 percent of the 120.7 million ether in circulation as of Aug. 17, Coinpost reported. The company said its total holdings, including cryptocurrencies and cash-like assets, reached $11.4 billion. It also bought back shares under a $4 billion program and has repurchased 20.8 million shares since July.
