Amazon Web Services, or AWS, said on Tuesday it has made AI models including Anthropic's Claude Opus 5 and Claude Sonnet 5 available on Amazon Bedrock based on the AWS Asia Pacific (Seoul) region.

The launch enables a range of organisations in South Korea to use Anthropic's Claude models while processing inference domestically.

The company said demand is growing across industries for advanced generative AI with domestic data processing capabilities. Companies building AI-based products and in-house tools want to use Claude models with low latency. Processing data in South Korea speeds responses compared with sending it to distant regions and receiving it back.

Regulated industries such as finance, the public sector and healthcare must meet strict data protection and regulatory requirements before adopting generative AI, and domestic data processing is useful for meeting those requirements. Startups and digital-native companies are providing services to customers that expect domestic data processing, while differentiating their products using leading models.

With inference for the latest Claude models handled in the Seoul region, inference processes and customer data remain in South Korea. Customers in regulated industries can apply the latest AI models to their business while meeting data residency requirements.

Customers can choose Claude Opus 5 for complex agent-based coding and enterprise work, and Claude Sonnet 5 for production workloads where a balance of intelligence and speed is important, such as coding, document processing and customer service applications. No separate infrastructure changes are required in the adoption process. If customers select the region-specific inference profile that fits their needs, Amazon Bedrock automatically handles routing.

AWS said South Korean companies are already building services using Anthropic's Claude models on Amazon Bedrock across industries including construction, manufacturing and telecommunications.

Samsung C&T improved its review work for Invitation to Bid, or ITB, documents and contracts by building an agentic AI system and comprehensive analysis without document size limits using Anthropic's Claude models provided on Amazon Bedrock.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said it introduced Anthropic's AI coding tool Claude Code through Amazon Bedrock in cooperation with AWS. Claude Code is currently being used by more than 1,200 developers, including the DX and AX organisation and researchers, to write, review and modify code in natural language.

Hanwha Solutions adopted Anthropic's Claude Cowork, an agent-type AI desktop application that helps knowledge workers delegate research, document analysis and report writing to AI, as its companywide AI assistant standard within an Amazon Bedrock-based enterprise governance environment.

Ham Kee-ho (함기호), head of AWS Korea, said Korean companies are ready to adopt AI quickly and must be able to choose models suitable for their work while having the security and controls needed for their business. He said enabling access to Anthropic's Claude models, including Claude Opus 5, in the AWS Asia Pacific (Seoul) region allows domestic companies and regulated-industry customers such as finance and the public sector to build AI-based applications while meeting requirements for domestic data processing. By providing models capable of domestic processing on infrastructure customers already trust, he said, AWS is helping domestic organisations move beyond experimentation into real operating environments with confidence.

Choi Ki-young (최기영), head of Anthropic Korea, said South Korea is one of the world's most advanced AI markets and a market that demands the highest standards for how AI is adopted. He said domestic inference support has removed a key barrier for companies and institutions building services based on Claude. He said banks, hospitals and public institutions closely tied to people's daily lives can now adopt Claude without taking sensitive data out of the country. He added that Anthropic is strengthening its investment in South Korea, including continuously expanding its Seoul team, and that many customers are already using Claude in their work.
