PIPC launches probe into Google over leak of information on victims of digital sex crimes

South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission said on Thursday it has launched an investigation into Google after media reports said deletion requests related to digital sex crime material provided to Google were disclosed on an external website. The commission said it is checking the scale, types and period of sensitive personal information provided to the site operator and how the damage occurred. It will also review potential violations of the Personal Information Protection Act.

SMR special act, enforcement decree take effect; public-private commercialisation begins

South Korea has put in place an institutional framework to support small modular reactor (SMR) development from research and development through demonstration and commercialisation at the government-wide level. The Ministry of Science and ICT said the SMR special act and its enforcement decree take effect from Sept. 11. The law sets out support for R&D and demonstration and aims to link outcomes to commercialisation and industry. A public-private committee and planning system will be established, along with support for private-led projects and R&D zones.

Coinbase and Moov partner to supply stablecoin payments infrastructure to U.S. community banks

U.S. crypto exchange Coinbase is partnering with payments infrastructure firm Moov to provide stablecoin payments infrastructure to U.S. community banks and credit unions. The firms plan to integrate Coinbase’s digital-asset infrastructure into Moov’s payments platform. Initial services include consumer stablecoin payments, merchant acceptance and settlement, corporate payouts and real-time funding. Moov serves more than 1,000 community banks and credit unions, though not all are expected to adopt the service.
