Acer unveils handheld gaming concept with built-in keyboard, Steam Deck-sized and for PC games

Acer has unveiled a concept handheld gaming device that integrates a small keyboard, aiming to let users play PC games that require keyboard input in a portable form factor. The Windows 11-based concept, called Project DualPlay Mini, features controller-style inputs and a flip-and-swivel design that mates the display with a backlit mini keyboard. Acer has not announced specifications, a launch schedule or any plan to sell the device.

Windows annual licence prices rise, with bigger increases for higher-end PCs

Annual Windows licence prices have risen by an unusually large margin, with bigger increases for PCs using higher-end CPUs, HotHardware reported on Aug. 10, citing Taiwan\'s United Daily News (UDN). UDN cited Taiwan PC OEMs as saying the increases have already been reflected in market prices. Annual licence prices have risen by up to 10 percent, with the size of the increase varying by company. Asus and Acer units in Taiwan were at about 5 percent, it said.

Apple tests CXMT memory amid shortages but U.S. rules block custom chip supply

Apple is testing DRAM from China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to respond to a memory supply crunch, but U.S. regulations are effectively blocking production of customised chips, a report said. Limits on technology transfer mean Apple cannot provide CXMT with detailed specifications for special chips. Apple is also weighing higher memory prices and bargaining shifts. PC makers have begun limited CXMT adoption outside the United States, but volumes remain small.
