A rumour is circulating that Nvidia has been in negotiations for more than a year to acquire a major PC maker such as Dell or HP, techzine reported on April 14 local time.
Nvidia flatly denied it, but shares of related companies briefly rebounded.
The rumour began with a report by semiconductor-focused outlet SemiAccurate, which said it was based on its own reporting over more than a year.
SemiAccurate did not specify a takeover target, but Lenovo, Dell, HP, Asus and Acer have been mentioned. Financial markets reacted immediately. Dell shares rose about 6.7 percent and HP shares gained more than 5.3 percent before later giving back gains.
Nvidia told Bloomberg it is not holding acquisition talks with any PC maker.
The rumour also intersects with reports that Nvidia is preparing to launch its in-house chip, the N1X. The N1X is a laptop chip that combines ARM processor cores, a GeForce RTX-class graphics card and an AI NPU. It targets slim laptops and small desktops and is slated for release in the first to second quarter of 2026. There is also talk that Dell and Lenovo are currently testing N1X hardware. Nvidia again stressed it neither needs nor is considering acquiring a PC maker for its N1X strategy.
