Financial watchdog to revamp bank CEO renewal process, expand National Growth Fund to 200 trillion won

South Korea\'s Financial Services Commission plans to overhaul financial sector governance, including changes to the process for renewing chief executives to block long-term control built on friendly boards. It also plans to expand the National Growth Fund to 200 trillion won and pursue a full lifting of network separation rules to support productive finance and artificial intelligence transformation. NH NongHyup Financial Group plans to build a groupwide comprehensive financial support system for strategic industries in North Jeolla province. In line with the government\'s \"5 poles, 3 special zones\" balanced growth policy, it selected North Jeolla as its second theme region after the southeast. The group plans to launch an \"NH Finance Hub\" in the third quarter alongside opening an NH-Amundi Asset Management office in Jeonju to support agrifood, physical AI and renewable energy industries.

South Korea to invest over 200 trillion won in R&D by 2030, secure 260,000 GPUs

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT said it finalised its Sixth Basic Plan for Science and Technology for 2026 to 2030 after approval by the National Science and Technology Advisory Council. The plan calls for investing more than 200 trillion won in government R&D over five years and spreading an AI shift across the country. It includes securing 260,000 public-private GPUs, building a sixth supercomputer and a national AI computing centre, and focusing over 60 trillion won on 10 strategic technology fields.
