KOCCA hosts Game Talent Institute Showcase 2026, unveils 13 new titles

South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency held the Game Talent Institute Showcase 2026 from Jan. 13 to 14 in Seongnam, the agency said on Friday. The event presented 13 student-made titles across platforms including PC and Xbox VR. A global console lecture on Jan. 14 featured speakers including Yoshiteru Sato of Idea Factory and Square Enix technical producer Ben Taylor. Companies also offered job and startup consulting.

Gartner expects shift in how AI spreads, end of era of standalone projects

Market research firm Gartner forecasts global AI spending will reach $2.5278 trillion in 2026, up 44 percent from a year earlier. John-David Lovelock, a Gartner senior VP analyst, said AI adoption depends on human capabilities and organisational process readiness, not just financial investment. He expects AI to remain in a “trough of disillusionment” through 2026 and to spread mainly via existing software vendors. AI-optimised server spending is seen rising 49 percent.

Socar users with higher driving scores have 61 percent lower accident rate

Socar said its data over the past year showed accident rates were lower among users with higher driving scores. Drivers scoring 90 or above had a 61 percent lower accident rate than those scoring 50 or below, and 25 percent lower than the overall average. The 100-point score is based on driving behavior such as speeding and harsh braking. Socar paid credits worth 4.6 billion won to users who drove safely.
