Woori Bank issued Korea-style green bonds worth 300 billion won as it moves to expand ESG finance.
Woori Bank said on May 11 it issued green bonds worth a total of 300 billion won through a Korea-style green bond issuance interest subsidy support programme hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute.
The issuance consists of 150 billion won of three-year notes and 150 billion won of one-year notes. It is the first Korea-style green bond issuance by a commercial bank this year and the largest single issuance on record.
Including this issuance, Woori Bank has issued a cumulative total of 600 billion won. It is the largest cumulative issuance of Korea-style green bonds by a bank since 2022.
The funds raised will be used entirely for environmentally friendly projects including solar and wind-based energy production and waste energy recovery projects.
The issuance was 추진됐다 as part of Woori Bank's ESG management strategy, NEXT ESG, and its detailed implementation tasks under NEXT 50. Woori Bank plans to strengthen its position in the green finance market and speed up the expansion of ESG finance.
Kang Han-na (강한나), a manager in Woori Bank's Treasury Department, said, "As the role of finance becomes more important for an eco-friendly transition, we will continue ESG finance steps that lead the market."
