Spotify tests feature to sync print books and audiobooks, launch uncertain

Spotify is developing a feature that automatically links audiobooks with printed books, The Verge reported on Jan. 20. Code in Spotify app version 9.1.18.282 showed a “Page Match” tool that scans a page with a camera and uses optical character recognition to find the corresponding audiobook timestamp. Users would need to unlock or buy the audiobook and separately own the print or e-book. Spotify has not announced the feature and its release is not confirmed, the report said.

Microsoft nears launch of ad-supported free Xbox cloud gaming

Microsoft is preparing an ad-supported free Xbox cloud gaming service, The Verge reported on Jan. 20. The company is testing a free streaming option for Xbox Insider users. Microsoft has added one hour of ad-supported playtime per session to the Xbox app, which allows up to 5 hours of free play in internal testing. Users must watch about 2 minutes of ads before streaming certain owned games and other titles. Microsoft has officially confirmed the plan and plans an announcement and public test soon.

Modulate unveils ELM voice AI model

Modulate has unveiled ELM, a voice AI it says can understand emotion, context and intent, SiliconANGLE reported on Jan. 20. The company said ELM is built on a multilayer architecture designed to understand voice data, unlike existing large language models. Modulate said ELM is 30 percent more accurate than models from OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek and ElevenLabs, and costs 10 to 100 times less to operate.
