AI era brings focus on yen stablecoins as Japan weighs strategy

Japan is increasingly debating the need for yen-denominated stablecoins and related rules as AI agents begin to make autonomous payments. At WebX 2026, Takafumi Horie and JPYC CEO Noritaka Okabe discussed payment infrastructure, security design and legal frameworks. UK bets on digital gilts, seeks up to 33 billion pounds a year in economic gains through tokenisation

Britain could generate annual economic gains of up to 33 billion pounds by 2035 if it becomes a global leader in tokenised finance, a projection said. The UK government aims to issue its first digital gilt in 2027 and accelerate the build-out of market infrastructure linking tokenised bond issuance, trading and settlement. A policy report proposes blockchain trials for repo transactions and urges recognition of digital gilts as central bank collateral to support secondary-market activity.

Align Partners makes public proposal to review merger between JB Financial and BNK Financial

Align Partners Asset Management made a public proposal to the boards of JB Financial Group and BNK Financial Group to review the strategic and financial feasibility of a merger. It said it asked the boards to form a special committee of independent directors and appoint a global investment bank and a strategy consultancy as advisers. Align Partners requested a reply by Aug. 7 and disclosure of any review results by the third-quarter earnings release.
