NIA says AI emerging as core to national competitiveness and social development
South Korea's National Information Society Agency released a report on 12 AI and digital trends for 2026. Based on future outlook reports from major institutions and research bodies at home and abroad, it analysed economic, industrial and social prospects as well as policy directions and major global issues. It identified 10 core technologies and highlighted trends including intensified competition over AI infrastructure, greater emphasis on technological sovereignty, AI agents, physical AI, on-device personalisation, biotech applications, AI media, 6G-satellite convergence, AI security, quantum technology and sustainable energy infrastructure.

Broadcasting revenue falls for second straight year; ad revenue down 7.4 percent
Revenue in South Korea’s broadcasting market fell 0.7 percent in 2024 to 18.83 trillion won, marking a second straight year of contraction. IPTV and IPTV content providers recorded revenue growth, while terrestrial broadcasters, cable operators, relay cable and satellite broadcasters saw declines. Broadcasting ad revenue fell 7.4 percent to 2.31 trillion won. Terrestrial broadcasters’ total revenue fell 5.4 percent, while pay-TV revenue was broadly flat.

HonestAI raises 14.4 billion won to expand financial AI solutions
HonestAI, a company focused on financial AI transformation, said on Wednesday it raised 14.4 billion won in a funding round. AAK participated as the lead investor and existing shareholder ATON, a fintech security company, made a follow-on investment. HonestAI said it will use the funds to further develop its AI technology next year and accelerate the expansion of AI solutions for financial institutions.
