Korea Post, under the Ministry of Science and ICT, will issue 450,000 commemorative stamps on July 16 to mark the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee session to be held in Busan from July 19, it said on Wednesday.
The stamp features Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple, which preserve 1,000 years of Silla history and artistic essence, Sansa, Buddhist Mountain Monasteries in Korea, where traditions of practice and community continue to this day, and the Gaya Tumuli, which show life and death in the ancient Gaya civilisation. The stamp margin depicts the Bangudae Petroglyphs, which carved prehistoric life and culture into rock.
Korea Post chief Park In-hwan (박인환) said he hoped the commemorative stamps would serve as a cultural promotional medium to publicise the excellence and beauty of the World Heritage sites held by South Korea. He said it would continue to introduce the value of the country’s culture and history to the public and to people around the world through stamps.
