MSIT visits Nvidia, OpenAI to review progress on AI cooperation

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT said Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myung visited Nvidia and OpenAI headquarters in California on Jan. 9 local time to review progress on cooperation that began after meetings last October between President Lee Jae-myung and the companies' CEOs. The ministry said Ryu discussed GPU procurement, public investment in AI infrastructure, and a possible Nvidia R&D centre in Korea. He also met OpenAI's chief global affairs officer and attended a United Korean Founder event.

LG AI Research says K-EXAONE proprietary AI model tops benchmark

LG AI Research on Jan. 11 unveiled its proprietary AI foundation model K-EXAONE, saying it consolidates five years of foundation model technology and reduces memory and compute needs by 70 percent versus EXAONE 4.0. LG said K-EXAONE scored 72 points on average across 13 benchmarks in the first round of a government project evaluation and posted 97.83 points on KGC-SAFETY. It will offer the K-EXAONE API free until Jan. 28.

Semiconductor duo drives Q4 as national pension stock value rises nearly 70 trillion won

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix shares jumped in the fourth quarter, pushing the National Pension Service’s valuation of stocks in listed firms where it holds at least 5 percent to 266.1 trillion won as of Jan. 7, up 35.48 percent from end-September, data showed. Samsung and SK Hynix added a combined 47.3 trillion won, or 67.85 percent of the increase. Hanwha Aerospace posted the biggest decline.
