MSIT selects 7 best active administration cases to deliver tangible results for public

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT held an award ceremony on April 13 for the first round of 2026 active administration best cases. It selected 7 cases from active administration efforts in last year's fourth quarter, evaluating public impact as well as initiative, creativity and expertise. Two cases received top awards, including a system to quickly block illegal phone numbers and the rapid resumption of international mail service to the United States.

Hormuz crypto-payment shippers face U.S. sanctions risk dilemma

Shipping companies that pay Iran in cryptocurrency for tolls or other fees could face substantial sanctions risk, analysts warned. Chainalysis said payments to the Iranian regime could be treated as “material support” under current sanctions even if tied to passage through key waterways. It said blockchain transfers can enable cross-border payments but leave transparent, permanent records that law enforcement can trace to off-ramps for freezing or seizure. Similar patterns have been cited in Russia.

Coinbase backs fast passage of CLARITY bill after call by U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong (브라이언 암스트롱) publicly backed swift action on the CLARITY bill urged by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent (스콧 베센트). The move is seen as a shift by Coinbase, which has opposed a provision barring interest payments to stablecoin holders. Bessent called for comprehensive digital asset legislation and pressed the Senate Banking Committee to accelerate final review. Outstanding issues include DeFi rules and limits on senior officials’ crypto holdings.
