Tech Insight: In AI era, excuses for software that has become easy

A recent plunge in software company shares has drawn attention to a narrative that AI will threaten the sector, but pushback is also growing. Finbarr Taylor, a former Shogun CEO and CTO, said on X that it is an overreach to conclude software has no value because AI tools make building products easier. He said durable advantages for public SaaS firms include network effects, switching costs, data, brand trust and regulatory infrastructure, and argued incumbents can also use AI to match rivals’ features.

Tether invests in Dreamcash parent as Hyperliquid expands RWA perpetual futures

Tether has invested in the parent company of Dreamcash, a Hyperliquid-based mobile interface, The Block reported on Feb. 13. The investment came shortly after Selini Capital, Dreamcash and Tether launched collateral-backed RWA perpetual futures using USDT0, an omnichain version of USDT. Dreamcash said on X that millions of USDT holders had no direct way to access Hyperliquid markets. Hyperliquid has used USDC as base collateral for perpetual futures and is preparing its own stablecoin, USDH.

Grayscale moves to convert AAVE trust into ETF

Crypto asset manager Grayscale has filed an application to convert its AAVE trust into an exchange-traded fund, The Block reported on Feb. 13. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said Grayscale requested approval for the conversion. AAVE is the native token of the Aave DeFi lending protocol and has a market value of about $1.8 billion. Grayscale’s proposed AAVE ETF would charge a 2.5 percent fee based on net asset value, paid in AAVE.
