Shinhan Bank has begun on-site volunteering, fundraising and financial support for the Geoje and Tongyeong areas of South Gyeongsang Province hit by torrential rain.
Shinhan Bank said on Aug. 31 that about 100 employees from its Busan-Ulsan headquarters, Busan Central headquarters and Busan-Gyeongnam headquarters visited Suwol Hillstate in Yangjeong-dong, Geoje, on Aug. 29 to carry out flood recovery volunteer work.
Suwol Hillstate suffered flooding in its underground parking lot from torrential rain, along with power and water outages. Employees removed waste and mud from the underground parking lot and cleared flooded furnishings and debris.
Employee participation for affected residents is also continuing. At an executive meeting, about 70 attending employees, including Shinhan Bank CEO Jeong Sang-hyeok (정상혁), wrote encouragement postcards to be delivered to flood-affected residents. They are to be delivered along with donated goods to residents struggling with meals in 20 administrative villages under the jurisdiction of Dundeok-myeon in Geoje.
Shinhan Bank will also run a donation drive throughout September for households in Geoje and Tongyeong affected by the torrential rain, through “Good Day, Good Donation” on its employee donation platform, “Beautiful Bank.” The donations are to be used to support living stability for children and families affected by heavy rain and landslides.
A Shinhan Bank official said, "We are taking part in on-site volunteering and fundraising to help residents who are struggling due to torrential rain return to their daily lives," adding, "We will continue to provide the support needed for disaster-hit areas and residents."
