National AI strategy panel discusses securing AI talent with parliament, engineering academy
South Korea's National AI Strategy Committee said its standing vice chair met National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik and Korean Academy of Engineering President Yoon Eui-joon to discuss strategies to secure and nurture AI talent. Participants reviewed domestic and international trends and government policy and shared cooperation needs with parliament. They agreed the issue is a national task requiring a nationwide response system. The vice chair called for more flexible talent recognition and stronger foundations for research, startups and industry activity.

KAIT appoints Kim Jeong-gi as full-time vice chairman
The Korea Association for ICT Promotion (KAIT) said on March 9 that Kim Jeong-gi, a former director-general at the Ministry of Science and ICT, has officially taken office as its 11th full-time vice chairman. Kim earned degrees from Seoul National University and a PhD in computer engineering from Virginia Tech. He previously served in a range of government roles, including policy posts and regional postal administration.

KOSPI slumps nearly 6 percent to 5,250 level; KOSDAQ down 4.5 percent
South Korean stocks closed sharply lower as fears of a potential clash between the United States and Iran rose again. The KOSPI fell 5.97 percent to 5,251.46 after a volatile session, prompting the Korea Exchange to trigger a sell-side sidecar and later a circuit breaker. Individuals were net buyers while foreigners and institutions sold. The KOSDAQ dropped 4.54 percent to 1,102.28. The won weakened to 1,494.90 per dollar.
