Netmarble posts 53.1 billion won Q1 operating profit, to launch five new titles in second half

Netmarble said on Wednesday it posted first-quarter revenue of 651.7 billion won and operating profit of 53.1 billion won, up 4.5 percent and 6.8 percent from a year earlier. EBITDA rose 2.8 percent to 83.9 billion won and net profit jumped 163 percent to 210.9 billion won due to gains from asset sales. Overseas sales accounted for 79 percent of revenue. The company plans new releases in Asia this month and in June, and five new titles in the second half.

KOSPI ends near 7,490 after rollercoaster session; foreigners sell over 7 trillion won

South Korea's KOSPI briefly rose above 7,500 on May 7 but swung sharply before ending near 7,490. The index closed up 105.49 points, or 1.43 percent, at 7,490.05 after opening at 7,499.07. Retail investors and institutions were net buyers, while foreigners were net sellers of 7.154 trillion won, helping fuel intraday volatility. The KOSDAQ fell below 1,200, and the won weakened against the dollar.

LG Uplus posts 272.3 billion won Q1 operating profit

LG Uplus reported a first-quarter operating profit of 272.3 billion won, up 6.6 percent from a year earlier, as growth in its AI data centre, smart home and mobile businesses supported earnings. Revenue rose 1.5 percent to 3.80 trillion won and service revenue increased 3.3 percent to 3.04 trillion won. The company also pointed to ROI-focused cost control and AI-based efficiency efforts, while marketing costs rose 11.7 percent.
