Stablecoin payments are not just about sending funds; key is local currency and FX settlement

As stablecoin payments move into mainstream financial infrastructure, the ability to secure local currency liquidity and handle foreign-exchange settlement is becoming a key competitive factor. Visa’s new stablecoin platform lets banks, fintechs and payment firms hold, transfer and redeem stablecoins in its environment. But broader adoption may depend less on moving tokens and more on converting funds into the recipient’s desired currency within existing FX rules and settlement systems.

Broadcast Media Communications Commission steps up talks on government bill for Audiovisual Media Services Act

South Korea's Broadcast Media Communications Commission has begun internal consultations on legislation for an Audiovisual Media Services Act covering broadcasting and online video services. The commission held a kickoff meeting to share policy research and gather members' views, saying no unified position has been formed. The act is included in the 2026 government legislative plan. Key differences with a bill filed by lawmaker Choi Min-hee include the scope of the public domain, deregulation of existing broadcasting rules and whether to regulate individual creators.

Smilegate to launch new MMORPG Eclipse on Sept. 10

Smilegate said on Thursday it will officially release the new massively multiplayer online role-playing game "Eclipse: The Awakening" on Sept. 10. Developed by Npixel, the game supports cross-platform play on mobile and PC and is positioned as "MMOLite" aimed at reducing player fatigue while keeping growth and competition elements. Smilegate is running pre-registration via its website, Google Play and Apple App Store, with items and other rewards for participants.
