KT to apply post-quantum cryptography security to defense systems

KT said on May 19 it will apply post-quantum cryptography to key South Korean defense systems through a 2026 pilot programme led by the Korea Internet & Security Agency with the Ministry of Science and ICT. The project aims to address security threats from advances in quantum computing and to apply and verify cryptography resistant to future quantum attacks on national core infrastructure. KT will run demonstrations with the defense ministry and the Army Information and Communications School.

Samsung Electronics Service expands Baro Service to Busan, South Jeolla and North Gyeongsang

Samsung Electronics Service said it has expanded its in-store "Baro Service" counters to seven locations by adding three hubs in Busan, South Jeolla and North Gyeongsang from May 18. The company launched a pilot at four sites in Seoul and Gyeonggi in October last year. It said average daily users in January to April rose more than 30 percent from October to December. The service offers device checks, repairs and consultations at Samsung Stores.

Hana Bank to run 'heatwave shelters' at branches nationwide

Hana Bank will open its branches nationwide as public rest areas to help people cope with summer heatwaves and heavy rain. The bank said on May 19 it will operate 'heatwave shelters' that anyone can use during business hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sept. 30. The shelters will be available to all residents regardless of whether they are Hana Bank customers, and free cold bottled water will be provided.
