MOLIT says unauthorised activation of Tesla FSD is illegal, up to 2 years in prison

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said attempts to unauthorisedly activate Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) function in the country are illegal and urged owners to refrain. The ministry said on March 31 that Tesla Korea had recognised a vulnerability in vehicle software related to such attempts and reported a cyber security threat situation. It warned violations could draw up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won.

Won-dollar exchange rate nears 1,540; BOK governor nominee says no major concern

The won weakened in Seoul trading on March 31, with the won-dollar exchange rate at 1,535.7 per dollar as of 2 p.m., up 20.0 won from the previous day’s daytime close. The rate climbed to 1,536.5 around 1:49 p.m., its highest level since March 10, 2009. The dollar index edged down to 100.432. Shin Hyun-song (신현송), the Bank of Korea governor nominee, said he placed no great significance on the current level.

South Korea identifies 3 national strategic technologies in display, secondary batteries and quantum

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning said on Monday they had confirmed three technologies in the display, secondary battery and quantum sectors as national strategic technologies in the first 2026 review round. The confirmation system determines whether technologies held, managed or under development qualify. A panel of industry, academic and research experts reviewed 38 technologies in this round.
