C-commerce users drop after ad spending cuts

The growth of C-commerce platforms such as AliExpress, Temu and Shein has slowed in South Korea, with both user numbers and payment volumes falling, according to app analytics and payments data. Industry observers attributed the decline mainly to reduced performance marketing spending. Sensor Tower data showed large cuts in digital advertising budgets in 2025. Chipmakers' big two capacity expansion boosts equipment orders

South Korea’s two leading chipmakers are announcing new investments that are expected to drive equipment demand. SK Hynix plans a 19 trillion won advanced packaging facility in Cheongju, targeting completion in 2027. Samsung Electronics is expanding 1c DRAM production at its Pyeongtaek P4 plant and aims to secure more than 140K capacity by end-2026. Equipment firms such as Jusung and Shinsung E&G have confirmed orders, while brokerages expect memory capex to rise in 2026.

Naver, Kakao poised to post record results in 2025

Naver and Kakao are expected to post their best-ever annual results. Naver's 2025 revenue is forecast to rise 12.7 percent to 12.11 trillion won, with operating profit seen up 11.2 percent at 2.2 trillion won on balanced growth in commerce and advertising. Kakao is projected to post revenue of 8.14 trillion won, up 3.5 percent, while operating profit is expected to jump 53.4 percent to 706.0 billion won as restructuring and cost controls take hold.
