KOSPI closes above 5,000 for first time despite Trump-driven shock
South Korea's KOSPI surged nearly 3 percent on Jan. 27 to close at 5,084.85, up 135.26 points. It was the first time the index finished above 5,000 on a closing basis. After opening lower and briefly sliding to 4,890.72, the market quickly recovered and extended gains. The KOSDAQ also rose, ending up 18.18 points at 1,082.59 after starting lower.

TmaxSoft declares shift to global AI business platform company
TmaxSoft said on Monday it held a companywide business strategy workshop at its headquarters in Seongnam to share management goals and plans for the new year. Chief Executive Lee Hyeong-yong urged staff to focus on developing global-oriented AI and cloud-native products and to execute newly set strategies. The company plans a profitability-based mid- to long-term strategy, a shift to a global AI business platform firm, and development of products under a Continuum AI brand.

KOSPI closes above 5,000 for first time; KOSDAQ ends above 1,000
South Korea’s KOSPI on Monday closed above the 5,000 mark for the first time, ending up 135.26 points, or 2.73 percent, at 5,084.85. It had first crossed 5,000 on an intraday basis on Jan. 22. The index opened lower after remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump about raising tariffs on Korean products, then rebounded on foreign and institutional buying. The KOSDAQ rose 1.71 percent to 1,082.59.
