Samsung Electronics Q1 'super surprise' lifts KOSPI above 5,580
South Korea’s KOSPI climbed more than 2 percent early on April 7 after Samsung Electronics delivered a first-quarter “super surprise” that beat market expectations. The benchmark rose to 5,589.19 by 9:29 a.m., with retail investors and foreigners net buyers. Heavyweight stocks including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix advanced. The KOSDAQ also gained. The won weakened slightly, with the dollar-won rate at 1,506.50.

Korea Investment Securities expands support for AI-based trading development
Korea Investment Securities said on April 3 it will provide additional open-source code to support in-house trading development using its OpenAPI. The company already offers free OpenAPI-based sample code and a backtesting function via GitHub. It added an investment strategy creation feature using indicators such as moving averages and momentum, along with basic examples. It also strengthened AI-linked functions for natural-language inputs in AI development environments.

Oracle AI Database@AWS launches in South Korea
Oracle and Amazon Web Services said on Tuesday they will provide Oracle AI Database@AWS to customers in South Korea. With the launch in the AWS Asia Pacific (Seoul) region, customers can run Oracle Exadata Database Service, Oracle Autonomous AI Database and Oracle Autonomous AI Lakehouse on dedicated Oracle Cloud Infrastructure infrastructure within AWS. The companies said the service supports moving Oracle AI database and Exadata workloads from on-premise systems to AWS with minimal changes.
