Devsisters is expanding the Cookie Run intellectual property (IP) into a feature-length animated film. The target date for a global theatrical release is 2029, the 20th anniversary of the Cookie Run IP.

Devsisters said on Oct. 12 it has signed a partnership with Hollywood studio Big Shot Pictures to produce a feature-length animated film based on the Cookie Run IP.

Big Shot Pictures will lead the film production, and Devsisters will take part in the process of designing the work's core creative direction.

Big Shot Pictures is a Hollywood studio founded by Brian Robbins, who previously served as co-CEO of Paramount and as head of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon. It has signed a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment on theatrical distribution and is expanding its family and animation IP-related business, including the "Eloise" franchise and "Alvin and the Chipmunks."

Cookie Run began in 2009 with the running game "OvenBreak" and later expanded into multiple genres and content. According to Devsisters, the Cookie Run IP has secured more than 300 million cumulative users across 248 countries worldwide.

North America, as of last year, is the largest market by combined Cookie Run IP revenue. In the United States, "Cookie Run: Kingdom" was the only game to make YouTube's top 10 list of popular trends, and IP businesses such as a trading card game (TCG) and character merchandise are also continuing.

The film production is part of Devsisters' strategy to expand Cookie Run from a game-centered IP into a global content franchise.

Devsisters CEO Gil-hyeon Cho (조길현) said, "We will expand Cookie Run into the new realm of the cinematic screen and present an IP experience different from existing platforms."

Big Shot Pictures CEO Brian Robbins said, "We will expand the world of Cookie Run into theaters so that we can communicate with existing fans while also introducing it to new global audiences."
