Trump\'s \'100% U.S.-made\' tech plan faces reality check as smartphone production costs jump 152%

A new analysis says President Donald Trump\'s push to shift technology product manufacturing entirely to the United States would require major investment and labour. The Consumer Technology Association estimated that relocating full supply chains for 10 widely used products could require $185 billion to $230 billion in capital spending, 555,000 to 668,000 additional full-time workers and up to 19.5 billion kWh a year in power. It said smartphone production costs could rise 152 percent, with consumer prices also likely to increase.

Musk says Terafab to be built and run directly by Tesla and SpaceX, dismisses TSMC role

Elon Musk (일론 머스크) said the Terafab semiconductor plant being pursued in Texas will be built and operated directly by Tesla and SpaceX, dismissing market speculation that TSMC could take over or broadly participate. He said TSMC could sublease part of the facility if it wants, but nothing more. He also said Intel remains the core technology partner. The project targets advanced chips for Tesla, SpaceX and xAI-related uses.

Lam Research launches Korea-only semiconductor unicorn fund

Lam Research will launch a Korea-only semiconductor venture investment fund and announced the plan on Oct. 8. The Lam Research-Hana Semiconductor Unicorn Fund was jointly established by Hana Ventures and Lam Capital, Lam Research\'s corporate venture investment organisation. The company said the fund aims to find and invest in domestic startups and new-technology companies with growth potential and help them expand. It will focus on manufacturing AI, robotics, advanced packaging and new materials.
