MSIT showcases outstanding national AI and ICT R&D results

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT is holding the 2026 ICT Technology Commercialisation Festival and the 2026 ITRC Talent Development Expo at COEX in Seoul from April 22 to 24 to present outstanding R&D results. Linked to the World IT Show, the commercialisation festival features exhibits by 38 companies and institutions and includes one-on-one investment consultations and business talks with telecom operators. The ITRC expo shares成果 from 81 research centres at 38 universities.

South Korea identifies 3 national strategic technologies in display, secondary batteries and quantum

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning said on Monday they had confirmed three technologies in the display, secondary battery and quantum sectors as national strategic technologies in the first 2026 review round. The confirmation system determines whether technologies held, managed or under development qualify. A panel of industry, academic and research experts reviewed 38 technologies in this round.

South Korea to foster brain-computer interface as future industry

South Korea\'s government plans to foster brain-computer interface (BCI) technology as a future core industry, aiming to take an early lead in an emerging brain-based sector. The Ministry of Science and ICT announced a joint interagency national research and development strategy covering mission-driven projects from 2027. It will pursue invasive BCI for intractable medical areas and non-invasive BCI for early commercialisation across fields including wearables, entertainment and defence, while also advancing brain-related drug development and data-driven brain models.
