Solid-state battery electric aircraft completes first crewed test flight
An electric aircraft equipped with solid-state batteries has successfully completed a crewed test flight, a step seen as supporting potential commercial use beyond electric cars. Helios Horizon said the June 6 flight carried a chief test pilot and focused on weight distribution and handling rather than range. The aircraft flew below about 500 feet at up to 60 mph. The company said its battery pack cost about $30,000 and used commercially available cells.

Amsterdam Schiphol airport trials electric TaxiBot tug, expects 80% cut in aircraft ground emissions
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has begun trial operations of the electric aircraft tug TaxiBot to sharply cut emissions produced during ground movements. The airport is testing the system in a real operating environment and expects it to reduce carbon emissions from ground taxiing by more than 80 percent. TaxiBot can move aircraft and supply power without running the main engines or auxiliary power unit, cutting fuel use, noise and exhaust exposure.

Beta Technologies targets commercial operations for Alia CX300 electric aircraft in 2027
U.S. electric aviation startup Beta Technologies is accelerating plans to commercialise its runway-based Alia CX300 electric aircraft for short regional routes. The company plans to start paid cargo operations this year under a U.S. Transportation Department pilot programme and is targeting full commercial certification by the end of 2027. Beta is focusing first on conventional takeoff and landing aircraft rather than eVTOLs, highlighting redundancy in its battery design and potential operating cost savings.
